How Mindfulness Can Help You Lose Weight

As women, we have always been taught that in order to lose weight, we need to do two things: eat less and exercise more.

I have seen so many people limiting food intake, adding extra sessions in the gym and still not seeing the results that they want.

While we don’t often think about it as a direct factor, the one area of wellness that factors into everything is stress.

Weight loss is all about giving the body the ability to properly adapt to new stressors:  “If our bod doesn’t have a good blend of stress:chill ratio, we may not be maximizing our ability to positively adapt (aka lose fat, hit PRs, or just feel d*mn good)” (King).


Stressors include:

Exercise

Lack of sleep

Calorie deficit

Everyday “stress”


Unfortunately, our bodies don’t recognize stressors in different ways. To the body, stress is stress. Even something that is good for us, like exercise, can be overdone and put our bodies on high alert. So depending on the combination of stressors, you might not be seeing the results that you want.


So what do we do with all of this? All of the above stressors are in your control and finding the right balance could be the key to a weight loss plateau or just living your best life.



My challenge to you is to look at that list of stressors and identify the area that you need to work on. For me, it’s “Everyday Stress”. So I have worked on a pretty solid routine for keeping my stress down: gratitude journaling, daily meditation books, and CBD before bed.


Gratitude Journal: My favorite gratitude journal is The 5 Minute Journal. I have gone through two of them now and not only is it great to start each morning and end each day with gratitude, but it is a really great practice to look back and see what I was reflecting on in the past.

Daily Meditation Book: I start my day each morning with a passage from Melody Beattie’s Journey to the Heart. This book is set up with one passage for each day of the year. What’s great about this book is that it isn’t a huge commitment. You can read the passage each morning or skip certain days and come back to it without missing a beat. I am now in my third year of using this book and again it is an awesome experience to read the same passages, but in  different seasons of life.


CBD Products: My favorite way to help with stress is with CBD products. I have been taking CBD for a few years now and I have tried a lot of different brands. CBD is something that helps to give me a sense of calm before I go to bed, but I am not dependent on the product. I am now a wholesale partner through Joy Organics and sell their products to my clients.
